Dear Scout Leaders:

The Phoenix District covers a large part of Atlanta including Sandy Springs, Buckhead, Midtown, Downtown, Candler Park, Inman Park, Virginia Highlands, and East Atlanta. We have had a superb year, and I want to provide a ‘State of the District’ update to keep you abreast of our wonderful status.

As the Phoenix District Chairman, I guide the District’s membership, program, and finance functions. It is my responsibility to represent the district on the Council Executive Board as a voice for our Scouts.

Our district is making significant changes to deliver quality Scouting programs to our Scouts. Included in this letter, you will see the 2016 end-of-year statistics and successes for the Phoenix District. The 2017 district goals are to continue to build on the accomplishments of 2016 by expanding district programs, crossing over more Webelos Scouts to Boy Scouts, and providing quality unit service.

Among the notable issues that I want to highlight are the following 2017 initiatives:

Even though we have made great strides in 2016, we still have room for improvement. We ask that if you know of leaders, or if you yourself are looking to help out the district level, that you connect with Tiffany Coakley, Hunter Woodworth, or myself. There is no shortage of volunteer activities that we can connect you with that are important to Scouting. If you would like to help mentor, teach, lead a program, or change more lives throughout Atlanta, please think of our district.

We invite you to attend the next Roundtable on Thursday, May 11th. We then have another roundtable on August 10th. Roundtable is here to provide a community for leaders to gather and discuss Scouting successes and challenges.

Thank you for your contribution to our success in 2016 and the service you are providing in 2017.

Yours in Scouting,

Kevin McGonigle

Phoenix District Chairman
